This year Polygonatum odoratum 'Variegatum has been selected as the Plant Of The Year for 2013.
Solomon's Seal (Spring)
Solomon's Seal (Summer)
Variegated Solomon's Seal in the Fall
This is a plant that is on the north side of my home, some sun and lots of heat. It received good amounts of water but never flinched in the heat, no browning, wilting or die back. It's a winner!
2012 was another winner through heat and drought, Brunnera Jack Frost.
This is a perennial that will not disappoint, spring, summer or fall!
A great plant to intermingle in the summer border
Brunnera Jack Frost will take quite a bit of sun, no browning leaves, beautiful all spring, summer and fall.

I do have Solomon's Seal in my shade garden, it sits behind a large hosta and hangs over. Makes an interesting grouping.
Every year the dogs have trampled my Solomon's Seal into near oblivion! Just once, I would love my clump to fill out and look half as nice as yours does!
Last year, I added 'Jack Frost', but I placed it inappropriately and it didn't have anything around it to set it off. This spring, it is getting moved to a better position where it can shine a bit more. I agree one hundred percent-it is a super plant.
Great choice in my book... I absolutely love the variegated Solomon's Seal! Larry
I have the Solomon's Seal, a gift from Larry! I also planted the Brunnera 'Jack Frost' last summer. It didn't exactly thrive, but it did survive. Will see what it does this year, and praying for an end to the drought!
I have never grown Solomon's Seal but I love the plant and it would go great in my shade garden or woodland bed. Brunnera is a favorite in my garden too but mine seems to want to die back when it gets very hot. Maybe it does not get enough water. Have a wonderful weekend. Looks like snow for us.
Hi, I just discovered your lovely blog! I wasn't aware that Solomon's Seal was chosen to be the plant of the year 2013. I like it quite a bit, maybe I give it try. I planted three plain, green leaved brunnera's. The precise name escaped my brain and all died on me within a year. But I may buy 'Jack Frost' and see if this variety fairs better.

I love Solomon's Seal. It has been slowly spreading underneath a big rhodie. I was just thinking about it today wondering when it will start popping through. I found Jack Frost recently on clearance, I was so excited because I've always held off on buying it because it is so expensive at the nursery by me.
I have a Solomon's Seal in my shade garden and it is always a winner. I love how it shoots up in the spring like tiny bamboo shoots. The Brunnera Jack Frost is beautiful - are the tiny purple flowers part of it in the springtime?
Hi Eileen, I have the species (solid green) Solomon's Seal. I must admit that the variegated is pretty especially in flower. My Brunnera is amazing. I love that plant. These two plants deserve every accolade the receive. Great pictures. I hope you're doing well.
