Spring In Full Swing

It has been such a busy week and I am sure many of us have been working nonstop to get plants into the garden.  I have been especially concerned about the plants I started from seed that I hardened off but were so crowded in their containers.

I have not been able to keep up with blogging and digging but I am sure things will calm down when everything is finally in the ground.

I love Bleeding Heart in the spring garden, impressive and dainty at the same time!

This season they are huge at least three feet tall and three feet wide.  They stay green a long time after flowering, do not cut down until they turn yellow.

Things are beginning to pop on the north side of the house, Solomon's Seal, Astilbe and Dinosaur Fern.

Muscari Blue Spike
Muscaris are very different in their shapes, leaf structures and their blooming times and also their colors.

Tulip Tangerine Beauty

I always put my herbs in a separate container because my veggie garden is small and I cannot take a chance of them overtaking the few veggies I grow.

I have planted onions, radishes, lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, spinach and parsley, cucumbers will be planted later.

I ordered the lettuce seeds from Burpee this year and it is just a green and red leaf lettuce, also planted a red Bib lettuce which is just coming up.

Hyacinth Woodstock

Funny, I don't remember planting these cream colored doubles and green and yellow striped tulips.  Maybe, I bought a bag at one of the big box stores late in the season, must look at my orders!

I kept my tropicals in the house over the winter.  This is the Croton and it looks pretty good for not being in a tropical environment.

Agave in the same tropical container overwintered in the house.

Hi Eileen. I know what you mean about being a busy time. I am so glad though to get out and dig in the dirt. LOL! I hope my Bleeding Hearts grow up to be as big and beautiful as yours. And I love Blue Spike Muscari. It is so thick with blooms. I really like that about it, besides being blue that is. LOL! Look at that lettuce. It looks so good. Have fun outdoors.

Hi Darla,

I have never seen the Bleeding Hearts so big after such a brutal winter, maybe the snow helped.

Lona, my Bleeding Hearts are bigger than ever this year. I am not sure what caused this extreme growth spurt.

Hi Scott,

They just amazed me by their beauty this year, too bad they don't bloom all summer.

Hi Eileen,
I think spring has indeed made it to your yard--everything is so lush. I really like the plump flowers on the Muscari Blue Spike.

I'd also love to have that herb pot. What a great assortment.

I am a couple of weeks away from any planting. I've been able to finally get out and do some spring cleaning. I still have at least two dozen more wheelbarrow loads of pine needles and debris to rake out from the main gardens.

Hi Eileen, It has been a crazy spring and like you I am just trying to catch up. Your bleeding heart is quite huge in comparison the the pink one I have (mine is only 2 yrs old). I like the Anemone Sylvestris and the Muscari Blue Spike especially in this post.

It's just gorgeous there! I love that Blue Spike Muscari, I'd seen it in a catalog but wondered how it would really look. Your Bleeding Hearts are looking beautiful! Ours seem a bit smaller than usual, but at least they finally bloomed.

Hi Zoey,

We are really hot here and now lots of storms. I am working very hard to get everything in before the weekend, big garden club group coming.

Thanks Becca,

We have really heated up quickly and then supposedly much colder next week. The cooler weather is better for the flowers but not too cool!

Thanks Jennifer,

The Bleeding Hearts seem to have taken off this year, bigger than ever! I need to fill in on this side with some plants other than hosta.

Hi Catherine,

I am always surrprised by the muscari as it comes up later than my daffodils and tulips. It is a welcome sight now when everything else is just about gone.

Love the plant tags in your herb container. And the Anemones are very elegant looking.

Hi Lynn,

Nice plant tags are getting more difficult to find.
