Around The Christmas Garden

The paperwhites are lovely this year.  I did have to hold them in the garage for a few days to suspend full bloom.

Fresh white pine worked in amongst the faux garland, fresh flowers in florist tubes on both sides.

When the lower leaves begin to fall from the poinsettias work in some fresh evergreen cuttings to fill in.  A local florist gave me this tip to make the plants look better for a longer period of time.

Eileen I love your arrangments and your pink and white pointsetta is gorgeous, at least that's the color it looks like to me in the picture. You do such great work! Also like your McCoy vase and Depression Glass holder. Hope you have a great coming year!

Hi RG, it is a pink and ivory colored poinsettia and they actually seem to hang on longer than the solid colored ones.

Hi Shirley, the paperwhites look really full this year and the smell is wonderful. I don't remember them as being as nice last year.

I bet it smells good in your house now with the paperwhites and evergreens! We have so many evergreen trees around us, but they are so tall I can't reach any branches to cut for inside. Great tip on using them with poinsettias!

Eileen girl you have such beautiful arrangements in your home! I love white (except when it is too much snow that is !) .. white is special .. you can mix anything with it .. one of the most beautiful bouquets I ever recieved was from my Dutch neighbors when we lived in Holland (talk about flower arrangements !) It was white on green .. just those two colours and it was amazing : ) I love your poinsettia and the paperwhites ... I wish I could force blubs here .. but the boys sneeze like crazy .. so I have to enjoy yours !!
Joy : )
Pre Happy New Year !!

I'm so glad your paperwhites held back for Christmas Eileen. That was a great idea to put them in the garage!

We heard about the snow and wind sweeping down the eastern United States, but 18 inches in New York - crikey!

Hope your Christmas was joyful.

Eileen, what a great idea to mix greens in with the poinsettias as they decline. Your floral displays are gorgeous. I hope you had a very Merry Christmas!

Hi Catherine,

You are correct, the paperwhites smell wonderful. I have the larger container in the dining room and the little pots over my kitchen sink. I'm afraid they will be gone all too soon.

Thanks Lona, We did have a nice Christmas. It is such a flurry I'm not sure we take enough time to relax and look around at what we have to be thankful for.

Hi Joy, I do like the white with all of the other colorful decorations and I just head today on the television that white is the new Christmas color. Little did I know!

You are the best when it comes to growing paperwhites! They stand like soldiers! I needed to follow your example and put some branches! Well, next year... Happy New Year to you with the new plant lights that you showed in your last post!
