Gardening With Friends

Gardening is fun, it is rewarding, obsessive and lonely unless you have special gardening friends.  There is nothing better than doing the nursery field trips looking for those special plants each year.  It is even more rewarding if you have someone that shares that wanderlust each spring when it's time to hit the garden centers.

I have such a friend who is willing to drop everything and look for plants, even going out of state to visit a unique garden center!  We have travelled miles together looking for those new introductions, attending plant walks, workshops, etc.  I talked her into joining my garden group, and I think she feels it was a good choice, lots of obsessive gardeners all in one place with lunch thrown in and usually a speaker.

Garden blogging is a wonderful connection for gardeners but it does not replace climbing into the 4-wheel drive with a buddy to go "plant chasing."

You are so fortunate. I do not have such a friend. It sounds like loads of fun. Your clematis - all of them are stunning especially Fire Works and Jubilee.

Hi Eileen... just lost my comment... what I was trying to say is that your clematis are wonderful and I really like the hosta photo as well... A number of my hosta don't look that great as there is considerable 'young bunny' damage. This time of the year the older rabbits stay pretty much away from my plants, but the little ones 'take no prisoners'! larry

Larry, I found a baby bunny in my garage last weekend, so I know they are around. So far, they haven't touched my hosta.

Thanks Becca. For years, I did all my plant hunting solo. Fireworks is at Home Depot as of the other day.

Having in-person gardening friends is wonderful. I'm so grateful having family and friends who share my gardening passion. I lost a dear gardening friend recently - especially poignant this time of year. A gardening friend is a true treasure.

Thanks Noel,

I have such a small garden that the vertical nature of clematis gives me another whole format for plants.

Lona,

It is too bad the chives don't rebloom.
