Rain And More Rain

Rain makes everything grow giant, it makes plants fall over that would normally be upright through the season.  Rain is not always friendly to our gardens, mold, certain insects, damaged flowers.  Whatever, we have had lots of rain, and I look out at the garden and see weeping everything.  The larger roses are bent to the ground and everything else is green, green, green.

My Huchera Villosa Purpurea are huge, Lirope Spicata taller than ever, Boxwood Chicagoland lush and bigger than ever.  Endless Summer Hydrangeas are full size and my hostas August Moon and Halcyon beyond expectations.  I am not going to complain about rain, but enough is enough for now!

  1. I can totally relate ... here it's torrential rain so heavy that my plants can literally drown! That was our summer ... then our autumn was constant gentle rain, but it was just too much after the heavy rains of the summer.

I do hope your plants come through ... they certainly are growing huge!!

  2. Dear Eileen, Despite what you say about the rain, and it is the same all over Europe, your garden is looking absolutely lovely - pretty, fresh, and overflowing with interesting plants. I have immediately fallen in love with Hosta 'Patriot', a cultivar completely new to me.

Thank you so much for your comment on my latest posting and to which I have replied.

  3. Hi Eileen. Your bunnies are cute but... LOL!
Your Rainbow knockout rose is getting so big and pretty. Have to love them.Henry Fields have the double pinks on sale so I just had to order another one. LOL! Patriot hosta is so lovely. I love the large white margins on it. Rain here to again today but thankfully no storms.

  4. You might be getting too much rain but the plants are still looking good from here but I know what you mean. Ya'll have gotten some rough weather recently haven't you. Hope it will calm down for you soon and spread some sun. I so love your hostas. I haven't done so well with them but I'm gonna have to give them another try. Have a great day. Becca

  5. Hi Bernie,

We both know what happens when the plants get too lush. They break and many times have disease and animals eating them.

  6. Thanks Edith,

The Hosta Patriot is very showy. I did divide it this year and gave some to my son. I had forgotten how hard hosta is to divide. I am afraid I chopped it, but it's growing!

  7. Lona, the bunnies are cute, and I am sure the baby I saw in my garage a week ago is the one doing all the damage.

  8. Hi Becca, my taller plants took a hit and I had to cut down the broken stems. I think they will be fine as long as we don't keep getting daily rain.

  9. As someone who has a really tiny urban front yard the giant plants you people who have land really impress me.

Love the hosta in the first pic.

  11. The rain is doing the same thing to my garden. Everything is huge and for most plants that's good, but some plants are not looking so good. We're ready for some sun here too.
Your garden looks very lush and beautiful. I think the Hostas look so pretty, they really seem to benefit from all the rain.

  12. Mr.Brown Thumb, I am really stumped at times in regard to planting. Everything seems to take over my small yard.

  13. Avis, those bunnies may be cut, but they are so destructive.

  14. Catherine, I can't believe the plants I have had to cut down because of the rain and the bunnies.
