I have been watering like crazy this week (90 degree temperatures) because everything seems to be in distress. It is supposed to be a little cooler for the weekend.
I have all my tomato plants put in including some sunflower seeds nasturtiums, cucumber and basil seeds. There is that new circular tomato cage that I am trying and a lean-to cucumber structure.
I bought two new perennials for the south border (Shasta Broadway Lights) which I have had before without success. I don't know why I am trying them again, but they do say zone 5, one more chance. I also bought Lobelia Cardinalis for the shade area under the Pagoda Dogwood.
The Knockout Roses look so much better in the back than in the front. I am beginning to believe that friend of mine that said it is bad feng shui to have thorns in the front of your home.

All the blooms look great! I like the gaillardias!
More beauty with every photo. My Miss Bateman started out with some pinkish in the middle and now the blooms are all white like yours..
Hi Dave,
I am beginning to really like the Gaillardias because they require miniumum watering and can take the heart.

Darla I am no longer sure this is Miss Bateman! There are two growing up the same trellis, one that is more pink at first and then this huge white one. I remember planting one several years ago that I thought had died and also Miss Bateman. Oh well, they are both very pretty.

Your first hosta looks a lot like undulata. The second is a very beautiful plant and has a familiar look to it... can't place it just now though. You certainly do have a lot in bloom today! Larry
Eileen what ever its name may be I am in love with the white Clematis blooms. Of course I am going to love the beauty of your hydrangea. One of my favorite plants. I like your Astrantia also. Is it easy to grow? I am taking the stance of asking before trying them myself. Getting to be a big chicken LOL!
Lona, I have had trouble with an Astrantia variety called Lars Major, replaced a few. I just purchased the Royal as an improved variety. The nursery said it no longer carries Lars Major (I wonder why). Anyway, I have the two different varieties growing together, another experiment.
They are under my Chanticleer Pear and receive filtered sun. The Lars Major looks much better this year than ever before, lots of blooms.

Larry, thank you. Undulata does sound familiar. On a side note, I am missing a whole rose bush - the rabbit ate it to the ground last night. It was a small delicate bush and I had not used my rabbit repellant in that area.

I guess one upside to the rain we have means no dragging hoses around, although 90 degrees sounds so nice right now!
You have so many pretty flowers blooming. I couldn't choose just one favorite, but I'm always partial to Clematis and Hydrangeas.
I guess I would have to agree, Clematis and Hydrangea rarely disappoint.

The first hosta looks like a H.undulata 'Univittata'
I'm looking for the second. Great pics! jim
I think the second hosta is H. 'Francis Williams'
I hope you have perfect gardening weather this weekend. jim
I love the Gaillardias...they are spectacular. The Max Frei Geranium is so elegant. Your plants look so lush.
Jim, I knew you and LC (the hosta kings) would know my mystery hostas. It could be Frances Williams since I bought one for my daughter a couple of years ago. Maybe I bought one for myself also. When you mentioned the name, it jogged my memory.
Eileen
Erin, this is my first time growing gaillardias, and I really like their look. I am growing a taller yellow one in my alley garden, not blooming yet.
Eileen
I really like your Max Frei Geranium Eileen and I can never say no to a clematis - your Rouge Cardinal is stunning!
After our hot and dry weekend last week we've had nothing but rain today! Should pick up tomorrow - hope it does - we are off to a plant sale.
