The Star Magnolia was a beauty this year but it is already beginning to wilt and brown because of the heat.
The PJM Rhododendrons seem to be able to handle the heat.
I almost didn't plant forsythia in the front garden because their blooms are so short-lived. However Forsythia Greenstem is a winner, only three feet tall and bright lemon yellow flowers and long lasting.
One little primrose came back from last year.
Daffodil Itzim
Very early and lasts much longer than Tete-A-Tete

Daffodil Fortissimo
Daffodils Marieke and Mount Hood
Daffodil Spellbinder
Chanticleer Pear
The tulips are opening, ferns are coming up, bleeding hearts are blooming. I had better take some photos, just hope we don't get frost!
Well for starters that pear tree is amazing and so is the Magnolia. We too have had crazy spring temperatures - 68f in March in Scotland today I'm sure has beaten all records. I never even thought about some of our blooms not being able to cope with the high temps here! I must see if those long lasting daffodils are available here as I grow lots of tete a tetes.
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Eileen:
ReplyDeleteIt is truly here to stay tho' todays temps are a little lower. I have been proceeding carefully in the garden and have loved all of the flowering trees. So hard to believe that this part of Spring is already behind us!
What are the flowering shrubs that are all over the place in shades of pinky lavender? I want one in my yard! Also, have you heard about the Classic Woman Rose?
I have dejoined the Garden Study group. Sorry you are no longer in the other group. I am program chr. for next year. Maybe you can come as my guest!!
Miss you!
Your pear tree is magnificent Eileen. You have so many lovely daffodils. Your Rhodies are ahead of mine. The blooms on my hyacinths are gone already because of the warm days. Now it is the frost we have to watch out for. We knew it was too good to be true about the warmer weather staying around.
ReplyDeleteMy Star Magnolia has never looked prettier - its really enjoying the sunshine.
ReplyDeleteYour garden looks very colourful Eileen with lots of pretty daffodils. I hope the frost stays away.

Hi Eileen, We are just behind you. My magnolia at the front of the house is in flower, but the star magnolia is holding back because the weather has gotten suddenly cooler. You daffodil display is lovely and I especially like the Spellbinder. Your pear is magnificent and is a perfect finale for your post.
ReplyDeleteRosie,
ReplyDeleteThe pear tree seems never to dissapoint. The daffodils are just about gone but it has turned cooler so the tulips may last a bit longer.
Eileen
Mary Anne,
ReplyDeletePart of spring has quickly passed us by and into the second part with all of the later bloomers.
Eileen
Hi Lona,
ReplyDeleteI am really thinking of doing more daffodils and less tulips. I have such trouble protecting the tulips from the squirrels in the fall and the rabbits in the spring.
Eileen
Hi Jeanne,
ReplyDeleteThe magnolia was beautiful this year but for such a short time. I a still glad that it did not get hit by the frost.
Eileen
Hi Jennifer,
ReplyDeleteThe Spellbinder is a great daffodil turning colors as it matures and very large.
Eileen
Gorgeous spring colour. That pear tree is just magnificent.

Hi Eileen... wonderful post with spectacular photos. We have been amazed to somehow not get frost on the magnolias and the spring has been wonderful so far but extremely hectic with trying to make all the changes I've planned for... needless to say, not all will be completed I'm afraid. I have so few daffodils cultivars blooming as yet despite being in full bud... on the other hand, some late tulips are in bloom... such a strange and glorious year! I'm sure you are enjoying your beautiful garden to the fullest! Regards, Larry
ReplyDeleteHello Eileen girl !
ReplyDeleteEvery time I see that enormous pear tree in flower it amazes me !!
It is such a beauty .. and you have more flowers out than I do at the moment .. we have been swinging back and forth with cold weather .. a frost last night ..
Sunny today though and I have to go get a few things including a memory card for the new scary camera ! LOL .. it is intimidating but I am determined to adapt to it .. plus I already know what I want for Christmas .. a good macro lens ! LOL
Joy
Hi Eileen, I love your container with the pussy willows, and your stunning rhododendron! Spring has arrived in Gatsbys Garden for sure!
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Beth
Thanks Larry,
ReplyDeleteI love your Magnolias and would love to have more than one. I am so glad that we opened up that pathway around it so now there is more room to walk by.
Eileen
Hi Joy,
ReplyDeleteI have had tons of spring blooms but with the heat most of them are gone except the tulips and hyacinths. I am enjoying the cool down as the blooms will last longer.
Eileen
Hi Beth,
ReplyDeleteThe rhodies were great this year and I have already done a little pruning so they don't get out of bounds.
Eileen
You have such pretty gardens and great combinations.
ReplyDeleteI'm putting Daffodil Itzim and Fortissimo on my wish list for Fall ordering. I planted Tete a Tete in a patio container last fall and they have already finished blooming, didn't last very long. If it warms up today more and the wind dies down, I will get out there and cut the dried bloom and stem off and let the foliage die back naturally and plan to add some more potting mix to the container and add some annuals in same container.
