Around The Garden

I can always count on my daylilies!  I have not noticed any damage from earwigs, japanese beetles or the rabbits.  Even though many of my perennials have grown out of bounds this year, the daylilies seem to stay within range and bloom at the appropriate time.

Several of my clematis have gone crazy needing more support than usual to stay upright.  Interesting that Heliopsis Lemon Queen, which is usually quite tall by now, seems shorter than ever. Maybe, it didn't like all of that rain!

The vegetable garden is giant, if a small garden can be giant, some curl on the tomato leaves, but not too bad.  We have already had some of the Burpee peppers that I ordered, supposedly mild - whew quite hot.  I am really liking the idea of planting some flowers on the edges of this garden.

  3. Thanks Nancy, I have some problem areas that you are not seeing, i.e., rabbits ate my asters, rose bushes, etc.

  4. Lona, Blue Paradise is lovely and very scented. It is my only phlox that some years needs support because the heads are so full. It also keeps blooming all summer if deadheaded.

  5. Lovely... I guess we have to look to the positive attributes of our gardens as insect damage and such can bring one down, if we allow it! And after all, when I think about it there a certain amount of disappointments every season. Very nice post... Larry

  6. Your south border is just gorgeous ... love all the colours in there. I'm also loving those Phlox ... so, so pretty! Your daylilies are beautiful as well ... Dark Ruby is a stunner. The flowers in the vegie garden really do look quite at home ... it's a lovely touch.

  7. Larry, I need to reve myself up for the next season in the garden. I am actually thinking of ordering bulbs for fall planting. I did fertilize the containers today and some of the annuals planted in the garden.

  8. Bernie, the phlox is very nice this year, not ravaged by the insects or rabbits.

  9. What a beautiful garden. Not only do you have a green thumb but fingers too. And yes the rain has had a impact on all gardens this year.

  11. Your gardens are just lovely! Phlox and daylilies are two of my favorites too and they are so dependable and carefree. Can't believe the height of you tomatoes:) Mine have lots of green fruit but are taking forever to ripen.

  12. Ah... a new look to your blog... I like it! Your gardens look great. We had quite a storm last night and it took one of my larger magnolias down with its straight line winds. I did what I could with my bad shoulder and then called in reinforcements (our youngest son) to do the heavy chainsaw work. My right shoulder is still almost useless... have you ever tried running a gas powered edger with left arm only?! It's a blast believe me... I've been at it for almost two hours and am about half done... we have between 20 and 30 gardeners coming tonight for a get together and I'd like things to look at least somewhat presentable! Any way... your site looks great and have a good day... Larry

  13. Larry, I was up late fooling around with the new blogger templates. It took me forever, not sure I know what I am doing, lost my titles for photos!

I am going to have to keep working on all the parts.
