Make My Day!

It didn't start out as a great day!  My grass looks terrible, I needed a haircut and I could only see a lot of work ahead of me in the garden.  It was 64 degrees and my bags of admendments were still strewn around my raised bed vegetable garden.  I needed to move out some plants before I can work the soil and plant my cold weather seeds.

I worked around the back garden cutting, raking bagging, etc.  The grasses are always beasties to cut down, tried cutting the Unique Hydrangea but the stems are so thick I am going to have to bring out the monster pruners to do this.  The Blue Dart Vinca (unlike my grass) is this rich color of green.  I have never seen the leftover fall leaves glued to the grass.  I literally picked some of them off the grass by hand - rake could not lift them. Nothing is blooming in my garden!  I even cut down the rest of my type 3 clematis because I couldn't get to them last week - leftover snow.  Before I rest I must spread my fertilizer in all the beds - just like feeding chickens.

Oops, gotta run and get that haircut, going right by Home Depot, stopped on the way back home, and what I found made my day!  It is the beginning of my Spring containers - it's early, but I can throw a bag over them if it snows, or I can bring them inside, as the pots slip out.

  1. Just breathe Eileen. LOL! One of those hectic days. Some of the leaves that had blown back into my beds this winter were plastered down also.Must have been all that heavy wet snow. Finding some goodies at Home Depot always raises ones spirits. ;-)

  2. Dear Eileen, Be calm, breathe deeply, and say after me, "I will survive". Your garden always looks exceptionally well cared for and well organised. You have a wonderful plant collection and all will be well. A new hair cut and you will be a new woman!

  3. Lona, you are correct. I need to slow down. I am walking very stiffly today - did too much.

  4. Edith, your advice is wise. My cousins in Ireland emailed me last night with St. Patrick's Day wishes. We are all so close with technology!

  5. Nice spring container!

I started off my day with the dentist then off to errands and back to clean up in the garden - I feel your pain - it's always so easy to overdo it in the garden after being indoors all winter.

  6. I'm going to try a raised bed vegetable garden at my mother's house this year. I'm excited about it and should have started already but our weather just has not cooperated.

  7. Garden Girl,

I think I am worse today as far as mobility. I did get the veggie planted though.

  11. Sometimes these cleanup chores can get overwhelming, but it sure feels good once they're finished. I have bags of compost laying around my yard like you do.
    Very pretty spring planter!

  13. Thanks Catherine,

I have Home Depot to thank for that spring arrangement. Why reinvent the wheel when they can do it as well and more economically than I can. When it snows this weekend, I can lift it out and bring it in the house. I might be a little optomistic about sprint!
