They act as a rich background to set off the perennials and also supply winter interest in the beds when nothing else is growing.allanbecker-gardenguruhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00249183285802762125noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2243579953985871041.post-32113406702240128462012-03-21T06:18:10.339-05:002012-03-21T06:18:10.339-05:00Hi GG,

They split so easily especially if on a parkway.

I don't have any rows in my perennial garden because I have done so much layering.

EileenGatsbys Gardenshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04228978705943696143noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2243579953985871041.post-29797142474170271712012-03-21T06:14:21.777-05:002012-03-21T06:14:21.777-05:00Hi Lona,

However, now they have multiplied and look a lot more casual.

EileenGatsbys Gardenshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04228978705943696143noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2243579953985871041.post-68101362224545490992012-03-20T20:05:18.253-05:002012-03-20T20:05:18.253-05:00I loved that pergola. And I loved that it was made from silver maples, my nemesis tree.

As for the row thing, just goes to show we should do what makes us happy in our gardens and don't worry about what the so-called experts say or what the newest trend is. I'm not big on rules . . . plant in masses, plant in rows - phooey! I do what makes me happy, which means I have a combination of rows, masses, and naturalistic plantings, and I like it that way. :)garden girlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13284047851881823280noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2243579953985871041.post-28112880175759215642012-03-20T16:43:10.575-05:002012-03-20T16:43:10.575-05:00What a feast for the eyes Eileen. I just got good at the triangles, not about ready to dig up my garden.

EileenGatsbys Gardenshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04228978705943696143noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2243579953985871041.post-10021631363169584942012-03-20T15:19:23.853-05:002012-03-20T15:19:23.853-05:00Tracie,

I worry about what might sneak back and shock us all.
I have been cleaning up in the garden for 3 days and poor husband and I are so tired ! LOL
This is quite the show .. I'm not sure I like the row plantings but I love the mixed ones with conifers! .. I have two yews in front of our AC unit and a great hydrangea to mask it as well .. then all the perennials out front of them .. I am stuck in that kind of planting I guess. But isn't that what it is all about ? It is "your" garden so plant what you love and anyway you like to see it displayed !CanadianGardenJoyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18130452541076704075noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2243579953985871041.post-42387917587804917502012-03-19T22:14:40.440-05:002012-03-19T22:14:40.440-05:00I love visiting garden shows!
